Pocket Poker

Pocket Poker is published by Owl Orchard LLC, an Oregon limited liability company. This policy explains what the app collects and why. The short version: to play online, the app signs you in with Game Center and keeps your chips on Owl Orchard’s server, and its optional ads come from Google AdMob. Nothing is sold, and you are never tracked across other apps or websites.

Online play and your chips

Quick Play and the Chip Bank use your Game Center sign-in. Apple confirms to Owl Orchard’s server who you are, and the server keeps:

• Your Game Center player ID and display name. The ID is one Apple creates for Owl Orchard’s games, not your Apple Account.
• Your Game Center photo, if you have one, as a small image.
• Your chip wallet — your balance and each change to it: the tables you bought into and cashed out of, chip packs bought and refunded, chips from ads, and card backs bought with chips.

The other players at your table see your display name and photo, your bets, and any cards you show at a showdown. The record of a table you have left is removed after about a month. Your wallet is kept so your chips are there when you come back.

Like any website, the server sees your device’s IP address when the app connects; it is not stored with your wallet. The server runs on Cloudflare, which hosts it for Owl Orchard.

Purchases

Chip packs and card backs are optional in-app purchases, processed entirely by Apple. Your payment method, billing address, and Apple Account details are never seen or handled by Owl Orchard. When you buy a chip pack, the app sends Apple’s signed record of the transaction — its ID, the product, and the date — to Owl Orchard’s server, so the chips are added exactly once. Apple tells the server about refunds, so refunded chips can be taken back.

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Advertising

The Chip Bank offers optional rewarded ads through Google AdMob. Google’s software is part of the app, and it loads an ad in advance so one is ready if you want it. To show ads, measure them, and prevent fraud, Google collects information such as device identifiers, your IP address and approximate location, information about your device and the app, and how you interact with ads, under Google’s privacy policy (see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services).

The app asks Google for non-personalized ads only and to restrict how it processes your data. It never asks for permission to track you, so your device’s advertising identifier is not available to it. When you finish an ad, Google tells Owl Orchard’s server so the chips can be added. That message carries a sealed code Google cannot read, so Google is not told who you are.

Playing in Messages

Games in Messages travel as messages inside your own conversation, handled entirely by Apple’s Messages framework and subject to Apple’s encryption and privacy practices. They go to the people in the conversation and never pass through any Owl Orchard system. The app does not access your contacts or your message history.

On your device and in iCloud

Your settings, your stats, and the last chip balance the server sent are stored on your device. So that your stats and the card backs you own follow you to your other devices, they are also written to Apple’s iCloud key-value storage, in your own iCloud account and governed by Apple’s privacy policy. Owl Orchard has no access to it. Card backs are shared with Card Games for iMessage the same way.

If you ask to be told when your stack is full, the app schedules that notification on your device. No push server is involved.

Game Center

Achievements and your Game Center profile belong to Apple’s Game Center, governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

No real-money gambling

Pocket Poker is a simulated card game. Chips can be bought, but they have no cash value and cannot be cashed out, transferred, or exchanged for anything of value. The app involves no wagering of real money or real-world items, and it collects none of the identity or financial information that real-money gaming would require.

Children

Pocket Poker is not directed to children, and because it depicts simulated gambling it carries a mature age rating on the App Store. No information is knowingly collected from children.

Removing your data

To remove what the app has stored on your device, delete the app. To have Owl Orchard’s server delete your player ID, name, photo, and chip wallet, email the address below with the Game Center name you play under. Once it is deleted, your chips are gone for good.

Your rights

Privacy laws including the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to access, correct, delete, and port the personal information a company holds about you, and to opt out of its sale. For what Owl Orchard’s server holds — your player ID, name, photo, and chip wallet — email the address below. Owl Orchard does not sell personal information, and the app asks Google not to use yours for personalized advertising.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted on this page with a new date. Material changes are noted in the app’s release notes.
